Pure white, measured in the file
The white is not painted over the old background. The product is cut out first, so its edge pixels carry the right amount of transparency, and then it is laid on white in linear light — the way light actually mixes — so the boundary blends into white instead of keeping a grey or coloured rim from the old surface.

- White products on white. The edge between a white product and its white surface has no colour difference to find. Lower the edge detail and repair the outline with the keep brush.
- Contact shadows. The shadow where the product touches the table is darker than the table, so it is often kept as part of the product. Take it away with the brush if your marketplace wants none.
Questions about white backgrounds
Why does a marketplace reject my 'white' background?
Because it is near-white, not white. A background of 250, 250, 248 looks white on screen and fails a check for 255, 255, 255. This page lays the cutout on exactly 255, 255, 255, then decodes the saved JPEG and reports the share of background pixels that are exactly white. Anything under 99.5% is flagged rather than passed silently.
Does JPEG keep the white exact?
For flat white areas, yes: a JPEG block of pure white decodes as pure white at ordinary quality settings. The edges around the product are where compression mixes colours, which is why the receipt counts only the pixels that were fully background — and checks them in the file itself, not in the settings.
How big should the product be in the frame?
Marketplace guides commonly ask for the product to fill about 85% of the frame. This page starts with a square box and 8% breathing room around the product; raise or lower that on the Frame panel. The figure comes from a secondary summary of Amazon's guidelines, so confirm it in your seller dashboard.
Should I keep a shadow under the product?
Some marketplaces allow a soft natural shadow under the product; others want nothing but white. The Finish panel can add a soft ground shadow written into the cutout before the white is laid behind it. It is off by default.
Can I do a whole catalogue?
Yes. Set it up on one photo, then press 'Apply these settings to a folder' on the Save panel. The queue runs the same method, frame, fill and format on up to twenty-five pictures and zips the results.
